Cammie King Conlon, Gone With The Wind Star, Dies At 76

The young girl who played the daughter of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara in the classic movie “Gone With The Wind” has died, reportedly from Lung cancer. She was 76 years old. She died on Wednesday Sept 31 2010 at her home in Fort Bragg, California.

She is seen on the right on the picture attending the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences celebration last year.

Cammie King Conlon was 4 years old when she was picked to play  Bonnie Blue Butler in the 1939 epic film “Gone With The Wind” that was set during the Civil War. In the movie, her character, Bonnie blue Butler, died when she fell from a pony, and this led to the marriage of Rhett and Scarlet.

Her only other film work was in “Bambi,” in 1942, in which her voice was used as that of the young doe Faline.

Cammie King Conlon got a degree in communications from the University of Southern California and for 2 years was an editor for the California Pictorial magazine. She spent a large amount of time in her life attending parades,  exhibits, and anniversary celebrations commemorating “Gone With The Wind.”

Cammie King Colon has a son, Matthew Ned Conlon, and her daughter, Katie Conlon Byrne. Memorial services are planned both on Sept 22 in Fort Bragg, Los Angeles, and another one in Marietta, Georgia.
